Companionship Support in Bristol
A dedicated local Companion for meaningful conversation, gentle activity, and unhurried support — with a minimum two-hour visit in Clifton and selected areas across Bristol.
What companionship means in Bristol
Companionship is more than practical help. It is the presence of someone who takes the time to listen, share a conversation, and accompany you through the ordinary moments of daily life. For people living in and around Bristol, having a dedicated Companion can transform a quiet week into one filled with meaningful connection and gentle activity — whether that is a walk through Clifton Village, a shared cup of tea, or simply sitting together in comfortable conversation.
Loneliness and social isolation affect many people in later life. The NHS reports that older people are especially vulnerable to loneliness, and that it can have a serious effect on physical and mental health. Regular companionship — a consistent visitor who arrives at the same time each week and takes a genuine interest — addresses the root of the issue, not just the symptoms.
Who Serella helps
Serella is for anyone who would benefit from regular companionship, practical help around the home, or support with everyday tasks. Many of our clients live in their own homes and value their independence, but appreciate having a trusted, familiar visitor each week. Some have family who live further away and value the reassurance that someone reliable is calling in regularly. Others are simply looking for company — someone to share a walk, a conversation, or an outing with.
We also work with families who want to arrange support on behalf of a relative. In every case, the person receiving support remains at the centre of decisions about their own life. Families are welcome to be part of the conversation, but the client's preferences and choices always come first.
Types of companion visits
Every Serella visit is shaped around what the client wants and needs. There is no fixed checklist — the support is bespoke. A typical companion visit in Bristol might include:
- Unhurried conversation over tea or coffee
- Sharing a film, a game of cards, or a hobby together
- Help with reading, writing letters, or using technology
- Light household tasks such as tidying, laundry, or organising
- Preparing a simple meal together
Each visit lasts a minimum of two hours, ensuring there is never a sense of being rushed. This is one of the things that sets companionship apart from a traditional care call — there is time to settle in, to talk, and to enjoy the visit rather than rushing to the next one.
Outings and appointments
A Serella Companion can accompany clients on outings across Bristol — whether that is a gentle walk on the Downs, a visit to a local café or gallery, a trip to the shops, or attending a social engagement. Having someone to go with can make all the difference to confidence and enjoyment.
Companions can also provide reassuring company and practical help getting to and from appointments — whether medical, personal, or social. This includes help with travel, waiting with the client, and making the day feel manageable rather than stressful.
Practical household assistance
As well as companionship, Serella provides practical lifestyle assistance that keeps daily life running smoothly. This includes help with shopping — either accompanying the client to the shops or collecting groceries on their behalf — laundry and light household tasks, and general everyday support tailored to individual routines.
For small household problems — a loose handrail, a dripping tap, or an overgrown garden path — Serella can act as a trusted local point of contact. We identify the issue, arrange a suitable provider, obtain a quote, and confirm when the work is complete. We coordinate independent providers and do not carry out regulated or specialist trade work directly.
Regular and occasional companionship
Most clients arrange regular weekly visits — perhaps one or two visits each week, on the same day and at the same time, so that the visit becomes a reassuring part of the weekly rhythm. This consistency is what builds trust and turns a visit into something genuinely looked forward to.
Occasional companionship is also available — for example, when family are away, during a period of recovery, or for a specific outing or event. We are happy to discuss what would work best for your situation.

How matching works
Every arrangement begins with a private introductory conversation. We take the time to understand the person — their routines, preferences, interests, and the kind of support that would genuinely help. We then match a Companion based on personality, shared interests, and practical compatibility.
Where possible, the same Companion visits each time. This continuity is one of the most valued parts of the service — it is what allows a genuine, trusting relationship to develop naturally over time, rather than a different face arriving each week.

Prices and arrangements
Serella charges an agreed rate for companionship and support visits. We are transparent about costs from the first conversation — there are no hidden fees and no surprises. Each visit is a minimum of two hours, and both hourly and monthly arrangements are available.

Safeguarding and boundaries
Serella provides companionship and lifestyle support. We do not provide regulated personal care, nursing, medical treatment, medication administration, clinical assessments, or emergency response services. If a client needs clinical or regulated care, we encourage families to seek advice from an appropriate qualified professional or regulated care provider.
All Companions undergo thorough background checks and reference verification. Serella takes all concerns seriously — if a Companion has a worry about a client's wellbeing or safety, they follow clear internal procedures, including informing the client, contacting authorised family members where agreed, and raising concerns with the appropriate authority where necessary.
With the client's permission, authorised family members can receive clear digital updates about visits, practical tasks, and agreed home-support arrangements through a secure online portal. This provides reassurance without being intrusive.
